2011-2012 Cranston Reds Squirts
The inaugural Cranston Reds Squirt season was a success. The coaches had lots of laughs and are all very proud of the team. We made progress all year which was evident during the last few weeks. The Reds didn't win many games during the season, but played every team close. Our hard work all year helped us end the year with an amazing 1st place tournament victory in the Central Mass Winter Classic in Marlboro, MA. We went 4-0-1 in the tournament and finished it off with a solid 3-1 victory in the finals.
The Reds team had a tough matchup against the 2nd place NEH Bruins in the playoffs. We played our hearts out and won game one 2-1. Once again, against the heavily favored Bruins, the Reds battled to a 1-1 tie in game 2. We eventually lost in overtime, but it was a back and forth event with chances on both sides.
The rubber game started rough for the Reds. We fell behind 3-0 very early in the first period. What seemed to be typical of this group of young hockey players all year was their ability to keep trying. The coaches can teach many things to our players, but the effort needs to come from them. The Reds battled for the next two periods and closed the gap to 3-1. The last minute and a half was spent in the Bruins zone with the goalie pulled. The boys and girls plugged away until the final buzzer went off.
We hope that all of the players had fun this year. The coaches enjoyed the time spent with them and hope they all continue to work hard in anything that they do(especially school !!). We'll see you all in the "Roost" and at the "Pole". Have a great Spring and Summer !! |
